Here is a summary of the amazing experience we had in De Pere, WI for the event.

As a group of us were heading down to the river for the event, a beautiful black and gold butterfly flew circles around us on our way. We found our places along the river, on a quiet, bird-less day.

flower offeringAfter our moment of silence and prayer at 6pm, we gently placed our flowers into the water as a symbol to carry our message of love. (As I placed mine, I noticed bones beneath the water surface. For me, it was a reminder of this prayer being for those who continue on, as well as for those who have gone.)

pelicans flying over dredging equipment in river As we looked up, we noticed pelicans beginning to appear. They first flew circles in front of us over the river (and ironically over the dredging equipment in the river, with a sign that read ‘Warning: Pipeline), then they proceeded to fly in circles directly over our heads. It felt as though they knew our reason for being there that day, and were sending their blessings and thanks.

The sun shone beautifully through the clouds, casting rays onto the river. Then, the wind gently picked up, carrying our flowers and prayers out to the sea.

It was a beautiful moment. Thank you again for being a part of it!

flowers along river Thank you for taking time
to acknowledge my loss,
and to send hope out
that no more lives this costs.

Thank you for pausing
for a moment in your day,
to send a healing vibration
and love our way.

Thank you for remembering
all that came to be,
and sharing the awareness
to help defend our sea.

8.9.10 the sea we defend: Event Info

Every 1, 2 come together for 3 minutes of darkness 4 prayer. 5 fingers on each hand join at 6pm over 7 continents on 8-9-10.

On August 9, 2010 we are asking you to take only 3 minutes of your time to sit in the dark, and say a prayer and send love to all of the inhabitants of the sea affected by the BP oil spill. So much life in the ocean is being affected as their homes are going dark, their bodies becoming covered, and many homes and lives being lost.

The healing power of prayer is amazing, especially in large masses. If anything, they will feel all of the love, understanding and compassion we send.

Their homes are now dark indefinitely. Can you spare only 3 minutes of darkness to send love to the innocent lives who cry out, ‘why, why?’

Please come together, this is the very least we can do.

Say a prayer and send love to the ocean and the life therein at 6pm- your time zone. Instead of choosing one time zone for all to participate, and wake in odd hours, if we all do it in our own time zone- we will send ‘healing waves of energy.’

8-9-10, love, compassion and healing we send.
8-9-10, let’s promise not to let this happen again.
8-9-10, let the world come together and unity begin.
8-9-10, on our knees we bend.
8-9-10, the sea we defend.

Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life.

Dedicated to all of the wildlife affected by the oil:

pelican looking out at the ocean

It’s dark up ahead,
I can no longer see.
It’s getting harder to move,
there’s something covering me.

It’s getting harder to breathe,
the smell is so strong.
I’m suddenly blind and can’t swim.
Help, there’s something wrong!

I’ve lived in this water
ever since I was small.
It was clear, blue and clean.
Now, I don’t recognize it at all.

I’m sinking to the bottom,
I can’t fight anymore.
Please do something to save us,
before it goes shore to shore.

In this current situation with the oil in the gulf, it’s hard to do a lot when you don’t have the expertise to make it stop. One can only pray, that we all work together, and that this gets resolved as soon as possible. Yes, people need to be held accountable, and so many things need to change. Now, we have to work together, get this stopped and cleaned up, and make sure it never happens again. Feeling helpless watching, know that every other thing you continue to do to make a difference is still worth it. The oil is creating enough of a problem for all life in the ocean, let’s make sure nothing else makes it’s way there. Let’s work to get it clean and keep it clean. May we become a world driven by love rather than money. It’s time for a change.
